Executive Director in Roanoke, VA

Brain Injury Services of SWVA, Inc., an organization serving survivors of brain injury, invites nominations, letters of application and resumes for the position of Executive Director based in Roanoke.
Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the Executive Director is responsible for the performance and operation of Brain Injury Services of SWVA, Inc. (BISSWVA), a non-stock, not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) corporation, established in 2000 to make a positive, measurable difference in a survivor?s abilities to fulfill their service potential and optimize their reintegration into their families and communities. The mission is achieved by providing community based case management and community support services to survivors of brain injury residing in southwest Virginia. Currently, BISSWVA serves 300 survivors and their families across 11,000 square miles of southwest Virginia through a staff of eight Case Managers and four Community Support Services Specialists assigned to one of five locations?Roanoke, New River Valley, Wytheville, Abingdon and Norton.
The Executive Director provides thoughtful and effective leadership, demonstrating and promoting a daily commitment to the mission and values of the organization while ensuring BISSWVA continues to provide high quality services. This executive works with and assists the Board to develop strategies and recommends objectives and plans for future growth.
Responsibilities of the Executive Director
Executive Reporting ? BISSWVA is governed by a Board of Trustees composed of up to 21 members. The Executive Director keeps the Chair of the Board of Trustees informed on all pertinent matters. Between meetings of the full Board, the Executive Director consults with members of the Executive Committee. The executive presents financial, operational, human resources, quality and utilization reports on the performance of all areas of the organization.
Planning, Organization, and Management ? The Executive Director ensures an organizational structure that provides for optimal resource utilization and limits exposure to threats, risk, and liability. This position ensures conformance with business and practice standards as provided by the Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). The executive serves as the organization?s budgeting authority, conferring with the Accountant to coordinate and prioritize planning. The director oversees the management of the corporation?s assets and coordinates with a board level committee on the investment of short-, intermediate-, and long-term funds.
Human Resources and Risk Management ? The Executive Director sets human resources policies and coordinates with the Program Director and Director of Administration the staffing, training, hiring, and, when necessary, the discharging of employees, as well as the administration of the compensation and benefit functions. The executive selects insurance advisors and brokers.
Public Relations and Marketing ? The Executive Director serves as a spokesperson for BISSWVA, promoting and maintaining positive relationships with donors, significant constituents, politicians, and civic representatives. The executive establishes and maintains professional associations with governmental authorities and peers throughout the state. The Executive Director reviews for approval the marketing plans, print materials for distribution and broadcast media content developed by the Director of Administration and Program Director.
Fund-raising ? The Executive Director oversees and guides the work of the Director of Administration to increase private, charitable, and corporate contributions to BISSWVA. The executive coordinates the development and implementation of an annual fundraising event open to the public and an annual giving program including but not limited to private donor and local government solicitations.
Ethical Management Accountabilities ? The executive maintains certification as a Certified Brain Injury Specialist and conducts all business in accordance with BISSWVA policies and procedures as well as appropriate laws and regulations pertaining to employer. The executive participates in seminars, workshops and conferences to continue professional growth and development and establishes relationships with peer groups statewide and nationally.
Minimum Requirements - Three (3) years of progressively responsible professional program management experience in an organization; Bachelor?s degree in management, allied health profession or nursing and any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Master?s Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field acceptable to the Board of Trustees; intermediate level computer skills and practical knowledge of computer software; excellent credit history; physical mobility; complex problem-solving and reasoning; able to read, write and proofread at a professional level.
